Review - King Sorrow by Joe Hill. (And a reminder to never judge a book by its cover).
King Sorrow - Joe Hill
They say never judge a book by it’s cover, but let’s face it, we ALL do! Something has to appeal to us to make us pick the book up and have a nose of the synopsis - and I was recently reminded why we shouldn’t discount a book from a glance (and also it shows how important a recommendation and chatting about books with others can be so important!)
A book recently hit our horror shelves and other than noticing that it was new, I didn’t really give it a second glance! I could see it had a fiery disposition, but I otherwise ignored it…
It was only when a customer (Hi Joolz!) popped in and mentioned that it “bridges the gap between fantasy and horror” that I wondered what it was actually about! After he left I went and looked at the synopsis and decided it was coming home with me!
At nearly 900 pages, this book is a beast just like the dragon within it, but don’t let that put you off - I haven’t been able to put it down!! (And with just over 100 pages left, its shaping up to be my read of the year).
King Sorrow follows a group of friends starting out in 1989 and takes us all the way through to the 2020’s on an epic, fiery journey both emotionally and physically. You’ll start in the USA, but visit Greenland and Cornwall meeting a host of characters (mostly human) who you’ll love… and love to hate!
This book has a little bit of everything - horror, fantasy, thrills, romance and one enormous dragon!
