Our Middle Grade fiction pics!

Our Middle Grade Fiction recs for the prolific young reader in your life!

Middle Grade fiction (targeting around the ages of 8-12 years) is such a brilliant category, as actually, the content is something that the whole family can read and enjoy together!

Inspired by one of our favourite young readers, Noah, who is making his way through all the adventures in our children’s section! We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite series suitable for this age group, which are also great fun for grown-ups to read and younger siblings to listen to as well!

Some of these you may have already enjoyed, but read on to see if there are adventures listed that you haven’t yet started…

Skandar - A.F.Steadman

This recent and very popular series by A.F Steadman has not long since published it’s fifth title, so there’s plenty of adventures to be had here!

The series tells the tale of Skandar and his family and friends in a world where flying unicorns exist – but don’t imagine the shiny white version – these equids eat meat!! It’s a world full of magic where various characters are able to wield magic drawn from the elements and is full of twists and turns!

Camp Half Blood – Rick Riordon.

Many of you will be familiar with Percy Jackson, the demi-god and his adventures all centred around Greek Mythology. This is a 7 book series, so if you have a reader at home that reads a lot, this will certainly keep them busy for a while! We have the whole series available in-store.

Following Percy’s success, and if you can’t get enough of Camp Half-Blood, you might like to try the spin-off series Heroes of Olympus. This series follows a fresh band of demi-god friends and their adventures in and around Camp Half-Blood.

Daughter of the Deep – Rick Riordon.

Not content with Greek myths, Riordan has also written an adventure filled series inspired by the classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea! The story focusses on Ana a student at a high school that graduates the best marine scientists, naval warriors, navigators, and underwater explorers in the world!

The Alex Rider Series - Anthony Horowitz

If spies and gadgets is more your thing, you’ll probably love this series which consists of a whopping 14 books! This series is perfect for young James Bond fans written by well known thriller and TV script writer Anthony Horowitz.

Artemis Fowl - Eoin Colfer

This bestseller will be right up the street of any young reader who has a rebellious streak, as Artemis is actually, a criminal genius! There are 8 books in this series to entertain your young gangsters, as well as a spin-off series; The Fowl Twins! There’s a fantasy twist AND its funny!

The Land of Roar Series – Jenny MacLachlan

A definite for fans of mythical creatures – mermaids, unicorns, dragons… this magical world has something for everyone and is beautifully illustrated throughout. There are also 5 books in this series and holds adventures up there with visiting Narnia! It’s proved very popular with Imaginarium young readers.
